[Hyper-V/General] How to prevent a restart

Hi,

is Hyper-V in Server 2008 R2 capable to restart virtual machines unexpectedly? I can't see in the logs of the affected virtual machines that a restart was executed by them. The physical Hyper-V server doesn't have any lack of memory, too. I can't also find anything unusual in the Hyper-V logs.

Further question: Is there a possibility to prevent that Windows will be restarted automatically after installing updates, even if there aren't any users logged on?

Are you asking if Hyper-V will just decide on its own to randomly restart a virtual machine?  If so, the answer is no.

Yes, but for how long?  It's been a while since I've run anything on 2008 R2, but I seem to recall that it would warn the user that it needed to be rebooted, but it would not reboot on its own.  But after a period of time - I forget how long - it would then reboot because it potentially has system files in different states that would be corrected by the reboot.

I was asking this question, because I was astonished about the operating time of a Linux virtual machine. I haven't restarted this machine at that time. Ubuntu doesn't usually require a restart after installing updates. I can't also find anything unusual in the syslog file, neither anything about a reboot.

I noticed that Windows would reboot if there aren't any users logged on, too. There are situations where the reboot shouldn't be executed, even if there aren't any users logged on. The system should be rebooted manually in those situations. Does it mean that there aren't any possibilities to let the system wait for the manual reboot?
